When Diddy ad-libs are the best part of your song, you know you have a problem. Kanye West's 'Ye' Is a Missed Opportunity for Redemptionģ6. Below, a comprehensive ranking of every song from the Wyoming sessions. It’s been a whirlwind, but as the dust settles, what remains are 36 tracks of varying quality from some of hip-hop’s biggest names. The highlights read like the plot of a soap opera with an experimental writers room: West posed in a Make America Great Again hat in a picture retweeted by President Trump West released a scatological troll as his big comeback single West appeared on a TMZ talkshow and suggested that American slavery was a choice (he has since clarified) Pusha-T began a no-holds-barred feud with Drake and won West flew a cadre of music industry luminaries (and Jonah Hill) to Wyoming for a campfire debut of his album and, in the most surprisingly normal move of all, West appeared on an episode of Celebrity Family Feud. Naturally, the intervening two months have been filled with tumult. ![]() From a creative fortress outside of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, West oversaw the release of five miniature albums (all are seven-track sets, except for Taylor’s eight-song LP) that captivated the music world. But barring a few rollout delays - on the afternoon of her scheduled release date, Taylor was retweeting fan memes about the record not yet being available - the improbable has come to pass. For anyone familiar with West’s loose adherence to deadlines, the likelihood of all five coming to fruition seemed unlikely. Then came a solo West album, a collaborative project between West and Kid Cudi called Kids See Ghosts, Nas’ first album in six years, and, finally, a Teyana Taylor project to conclude the series. Music label would release five West-produced albums on five consecutive Fridays, beginning with a Pusha-T LP on May 25. Let the man be happy, we all say stupid shit in the privacy of our homes and around our friends, let’s not ruin Kanye’s legacy over some over-edited video on fucking TMZ.In mid-April, West announced that his G.O.O.D. He looked super happy during the Camp Flog Naw, and he’s stopped Tweeting stupid shit that doesn’t make sense, so I think he’s doing better, but we need to stop expecting the Old Kanye to come back. We should not be so quick to judge someone who has admitted to being mentally unwell, and for someone with the ego of Kanye to admit that he’s not on top of his game, he must be really not doing too well. I want to take a moment to talk about Kanye West, The Person. Kids See Ghosts is a cohesive concept album, with topics ranging from the prison-industrial complex, as shown in Cudi Montage, struggles with mental health as shown in Reborn, and whatever the fuck Kanye was doing in Feel The Love. This makes more of a cohesive sound, and helps me finally understand concept albums. I feel myself coming back to this album on a regular basis because as I get older, I feel myself listening to albums front to back instead of jumping track to track. The mix between upbeat Kanye, and slower, more somber Cudi serve as musical peanut butter and jelly sandwich that climaxes during Cudi Montage, the final song of one of the best albums of the year, and easily the best Wyoming Kanye Album. It’s short, sweet and to the point, with no skippable tracks. Kids See Ghosts is tied with Swimming for my album of the year. ![]() Kanye’s verse is the most coherent he’s been since Ultralight Beam off, Saint Pablo, and the most socially observant he’s been since My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. I’ve spent many hours rewriting this blog post, using a different song each time, but I’ve finally came to a decision: Cudi Montage has the best message, has the best instrumental, and has a crazy Kurt Cobain sample that I couldn’t find anywhere, but I checked WhoSampled, and they usually have accurate information. ![]() Cudi Montage is the best song on Kids See Ghosts, by a long shot.
